Biography
Jimmy Gadomski’s passion for diving has led him to many different expeditions around the world as well as being an experienced captain in many different challenging situations. He has been part of some significant discoveries that have gained worldwide recognition through different media and documentation sources. A big notable discovery has been the shipwreck of the SS Pulaski off the coast of North Carolina, which was identified by a candlestick holder that has “Pulaski” engraved on the inside of it recovered by Jimmy in 2017. While on this shipwreck he was captain of the Blue Water Rose a marine salvage vessel outfitted for technical diving with a fill station onboard designed by Jimmy himself. This site has produced many artifacts including gold and silver coins, pocket watches, china, and other significant cargo related to a shipwreck from the early 1800s. For historical purposes and documentation donations are made to the Ships of the Sea Museum in Savanah, GA where the display of the artifacts can be viewed and a replication of the ship itself is modeled as well. He has run different surveys and explored multiple wrecks sites along the coast from GA to VA while under command of the Blue Water Rose.
Shipwrecks have always been a huge interest to Jimmy linking him up with his good friend and diving partner Mike Barnette. They were able to document and film sites unidentified and most never dove on History Channels show Bermuda Triangle Into Cursed Waters. While exploring different sites looking for a certain plane wreck they discovered a segment of the Space Shuttle Challenger and were recognized by NASA and world news for doing so. The remainder of the show produced over 15 new discoveries across 2 seasons. This show was unique as this was true exploration documented first hand on a tv show. He has produced video, stills, and photogrammetry of many of the wrecks seen on the show.
Camera and film equipment have always been important for documentation and there are new pieces of equipment to test all the time. While testing a new drop camera that produces a live surface feed the discovery of a Douglas AD-5 Skyraider was found off the coast of Miami that had crashed in 1957. The plane broken into 2 pieces roughly 1500’ apart, using photogrammetry Jimmy was able to made a 3d model of both pieces and stich them back together as if they were laying next to each other on the seafloor and then match it with actual photos from the aircraft. Channel 7 news helped bring the story to life and included the family of the pilot, who survived, in the story as well.
Jimmy is also an advanced trimix instructor with TDI and when not on projects will share his passion with others by teaching technical diving in the South Florida area. He will also take the role of captain with different dive charters from Miami to Jupiter area, hitting the lesser know and dove sites. You can find different dive opportunities through what he has set up as Florida Technical Diving which provides trips, rentals, fills, and logistics that local dive shops can’t accommodate.
High pressure fill station design is another skill under his belt, whether it’s a small boost system needing to boost gas in remote places in the back of a truck, to a full on trimix fill station in a 20ft shipping container on a research vessel, Jimmy has designed and built many different fill stations for projects, dive shops, and yachts. You can find much of his work around the South Florida area dive shops.
He has worked as a commercial diver on multiple projects with the city on Pompano Beach as well. Recently just installed the camera on Pompano Pier to provide a live underwater feed via youtube that can be currently viewed. Also assisted and documented the installation process of a floating dock in Wahoo by near the Hillsboro inlet Lighthouse. This is an ongoing project to have the protected area attract fish and wildlife to produce a diverse ecosystem for research studies with FAU and to teach kids about marine biology by bringing different snorkeling field trips to the park. There will be a live camera feed as well that will show the underwater progress to be installed soon. And he is also working on mapping the entire wahoo bay area for a baseline of what the changes will be and impact will be over the years at Wahoo Bay. Prior to all this he also sunk the Mechan 2.0 800lb statue on the Lady Luck shipwreck as park of an art display for shipwreck park, and the statue is placed on the middle decks aft on the starboard side.
Jimmy has always had a passion for underwater photography and cinematography which he has used to help document the many different shipwreck and cave sites. You can find his work on History Channels Bermuda Triangle Into Cursed Waters. As well as many of the photogrammetry models he has done for the show. Much of his cinematography and photogrammetry work is also viewable on Youtube and Instagram. Most recently Jimmy has been working on projects with Karst Underwater Research for underwater cave documentation. You can find his work displayed by KUR as well as the photogrammetry model of the Spectacled Bear skulls in Manatee Springs done on a project to measure, document, and record data.
This has only been a brief description of the projects he has been part of. Jimmy is always looking for the next expedition and adventure to explore and document the world.
